I lost my install CD for my old version of Creator version 9 , so when I upgraded my laptop, I looked for a replacement. This option, a downloadable version from Amazon, was available for discount, because it was the "old version", although it was a couple of versions newer than the one I had been using.
I installed this version on my new Windows 8 laptop, and it installs and runs perfectly. I like the feature enhancements from version 9, and the software itself is familiar enough for me to hit the ground running. I've mastered several DVD's already, and generated several slide shows of pictures with music and text overlays, and it couldn't have been easier.
I've also clipped together movies from my camera with clips downloaded from youtube and facebook, and that worked very well It took a while to render, to the final movie of course, but there were options to render it for use on a phone, various devices such as a tablet, ipad or video player, computer, dvd, blue ray, and more. Over all, I'm very happy with this version of Roxio, and with purchasing software on Amazon - they keep the info "in the cloud", so I can get to it later, and the process was very manageable.
My test worked well, and I would absolutely do this again, when the opportunity arises! Problem is it will not recognize the recorded TIVO shows. I am using the recommended OS. I am using 2. After using the TIVO Desktop program to transfer the recorded program to the "My TIVO Recordings" folder and then using Roxio's instructions from their tech support site to convert the video by going to the above mentioned location nothing shows up in the list of recorded programs to choose.
I have used windows explorer to verify that the TIVO programs are in that location. Trying to reach their tech support is impossible if you don't have your tech support code. And trying to retrieve your tech support code only good for 14 days after purchase is impossible because the site to retrieve it does not list Roxio Creator products.
I do not recommend this product for anyone attempting to use it to convert TIVO recorded programs as advertised. I would have rated the software 4 stars, except Roxio does not allow users to select features, shortcuts, etc. Even the default settings remove previous user settings without the user's knowledge. Older versions allowed some customization during the installation; however, that is no longer true. After I installed the software, I inserted a CD.
One of the Roxio applications started up. With a little search, I was able to deactivate that feature. I am still finding other items that Roxio configured without my knowledge. I thought I configured Roxio Burn Disc to not open. I am using Win 7, 64 bit. It simply will not burn a disc; crashes every time. I have gone on-line and tried the fixes, such as with virtual memory, selecting certain boxes as defaults, and other things suggested, and the result is the same.
Even requesting no audio didn't make a difference. It looks nice, and easy to put together a slide show which is what I am using it for , but of no value if you cannot burn a disc. And from comments on line, Roxio gives no technical support. Help menu is worthless. Worst software I have ever gotten. Less elegant then what Creator offers, but if one cannot burn a disc, it matters little.
One person found this helpful. DRM protected files cannot be added to a project, so they will not be displayed. If Tivo added DRM to the file it can't be copied. You'd have to bring it up with them. The DRM kicks in when you try to convert it. You can watch it on the computer, yes.
